कर्णेन विजिता राजन् दुःशासनम् अनुव्रताः ॥
एतांस् तु वासुदेवो ऽपि रथोदारान् प्रशंसति ॥
सततं प्रियकामाश् च कर्णस्यैते वशे स्थिताः ॥
तस्यैव वचनाद् राजन् निवृत्ताः श्वेतवाहनात् ॥
ते न क्षता न च श्रान्ता दृढावरणकार्मुकाः ॥
मदर्थं विष्ठिता नूनं धार्तराष्ट्रस्य शासनात् ॥
एतान् प्रमथ्य संग्रामे प्रियार्थं तव कौरव ॥
प्रयास्यामि ततः पश्चात् पदवीं सव्यसाचिनः ॥
karṇena vijitā rājan duḥśāsanam anuvratāḥ ||
etāṃs tu vāsudevo 'pi rathodārān praśaṃsati ||
satataṃ priyakāmāś ca karṇasyaite vaśe sthitāḥ ||
tasyaiva vacanād rājan nivṛttāḥ śvetavāhanāt ||
te na kṣatā na ca śrāntā dṛḍhāvaraṇakārmukāḥ ||
madarthaṃ viṣṭhitā nūnaṃ dhārtarāṣṭrasya śāsanāt ||
etān pramathya saṃgrāme priyārthaṃ tava kaurava ||
prayāsyāmi tataḥ paścāt padavīṃ savyasācinaḥ ||
"Subdued by Karna, O king, devoted to Duhshasana — these even Vasudeva praises as excellent warriors. Ever eager to please, they stand under Karna's sway; by his own word, O king, they were turned away from the White-horsed Arjuna. Unwounded and unwearied, with sturdy armor and bows, they have surely been stationed against me by the order of the son of Dhritarashtra. Having crushed them in battle for love of you, O Kaurava, I shall then set forth upon the path of Savyasachin."

Satyaki sees through the enemy's disposition entirely: fresh, untouched warriors "madartham viṣṭhitāḥ," deliberately held in reserve against him. It is significant that he is not deceived by any appearance of ease, but soberly assesses the obstacle set before him. The verse teaches that the wise warrior goes into battle with open eyes: he discerns the enemy's design and does not mistake a fresh, deliberately preserved force for easy prey — for foreseeing danger is half the victory over it.
