दारुकस्यानुजो भ्राता सूतस् तस्य प्रियः सखा ॥
न्यवेदयद् रथं युक्तं वासवस्येव मातलिः ॥
ततः स्नातः शुचिर् भूत्वा कृतकौतुकमङ्गलः ॥
स्नातकानां सहस्रस्य स्वर्णनिष्कान् अदापयत् ॥
आशीर्वादैः परिष्वक्तः सात्यकिः श्रीमतां वरः ॥
ततः स मधुपर्कार्हः पीत्वा कैलावतं मधु ॥
लोहिताक्षो बभौ तत्र मदविह्वललोचनः ॥
dārukasyānujo bhrātā sūtas tasya priyaḥ sakhā ||
nyavedayad rathaṃ yuktaṃ vāsavasyeva mātaliḥ ||
tataḥ snātaḥ śucir bhūtvā kṛtakautukamaṅgalaḥ ||
snātakānāṃ sahasrasya svarṇaniṣkān adāpayat ||
āśīrvādaiḥ pariṣvaktaḥ sātyakiḥ śrīmatāṃ varaḥ ||
tataḥ sa madhuparkārhaḥ pītvā kailāvataṃ madhu ||
lohitākṣo babhau tatra madavihvalalocanaḥ ||
Daruka's younger brother, the charioteer, his dear friend, reported the chariot yoked, like Matali to Vasava. Then, having bathed and become pure, having performed the rites of blessing, [Satyaki] ordered golden nishkas distributed to a thousand snatakas. Then he, worthy of the honored madhuparka, having drunk Kailavata liquor, shone there red-eyed, his eyes clouded by drink.

Before his exploit Satyaki performs rites and gives gold to brahmins: the deed of valor is consecrated by piety and generosity. It is telling that before taking up arms he honors the twice-born and performs a blessing. The verse teaches that a righteous deed is fittingly begun with reverence for what is sacred and with almsgiving: whoever sets out for a hard task first seeks blessing from above and gives to the needy, so that his deed may rest not on strength alone, but on grace as well.
