तथैवं वदतस् तस्य भारद्वाजस्य मारिष ॥
प्रत्यदृश्यत शैनेयो निघ्नन् बहुविधान् रथान् ॥
ते वध्यमानाः समरे युयुधानेन तावकाः ॥
युयुधानरथं त्यक्त्वा द्रोणानीकाय दुद्रुवुः ॥
यैस् तु दुःशासनः सार्धं रथैः पूर्वं न्यवर्तत ॥
ते भीतास् त्व् अभ्यधावन्त सर्वे द्रोणरथं प्रति ॥
tathaivaṃ vadatas tasya bhāradvājasya māriṣa ||
pratyadṛśyata śaineyo nighnan bahuvidhān rathān ||
te vadhyamānāḥ samare yuyudhānena tāvakāḥ ||
yuyudhānarathaṃ tyaktvā droṇānīkāya dudruvuḥ ||
yais tu duḥśāsanaḥ sārdhaṃ rathaiḥ pūrvaṃ nyavartata ||
te bhītās tv abhyadhāvanta sarve droṇarathaṃ prati ||
"Thus while he was speaking, the son of Bharadvaja, O venerable one, Shaineya came into view, smiting chariots of many kinds. They, being struck down in the battle by Yuyudhana, your men, abandoning Yuyudhana's chariot, fled [to] Drona's army. [Those] with whom Duhshasana had earlier turned back on chariots, they, frightened, all rushed [toward] Drona's chariot."

Those fleeing from Satyaki make for "droṇaratham prati", Drona's chariot: in an hour of terror all seek shelter with the one who stands unshaken. It is telling that the broken are drawn to the steadfast. The verse teaches that in a common rout the one who has not wavered becomes the refuge of many: those who have faltered gather toward the unmoved, seeking safety -- and so the firmness of one becomes a shelter for the many who have lost their courage.
