प्रजापतीनां प्रथमं तैजसं पुरुषं विभुम् ॥
भुवनं भूर् भुवं देवं सर्वलोकेश्वरं प्रभुम् ॥
ईशानं वरदं पार्थ दृष्टवान् असि शंकरम् ॥
तं गच्छ शरणं देवं सर्वादिं भुवनेश्वरम् ॥
महादेवं महात्मानम् ईशानं जटिलं शिवम् ॥
त्र्यक्षं महाभुजं रुद्रं शिखिनं चीरवाससम् ॥
दातारं चैव भक्तानां प्रसादविहितान् वरान् ॥

tryakṣaṃ mahābhujaṃ rudraṃ śikhinaṃ cīravāsasam ||
dātāraṃ caiva bhaktānāṃ prasādavihitān varān ||

अनुवाद

[Vyasa said:] "The foremost of the Prajapatis, the fiery [radiant] man, the all-powerful one, [existing as] the world, the earth and the atmosphere [bhur-bhuvah], the god, the lord of all worlds, the master, Ishana, the giver of boons, O Partha — that is Shankara whom you have seen. Go to him for refuge, to the god, the origin of all, the lord of the worlds: Mahadeva, the great-souled one, Ishana, matted-haired, Shiva, the three-eyed, mighty-armed Rudra, with a topknot, clad in bark garments; and the giver to devotees of boons granted by his grace."
