"To the turbaned, of beautiful face, thousand-eyed, the generous [who showers gifts]; dwelling on the mountain, utterly peaceful, the lord, clad in bark garments. And to the golden-armed, the fierce, lord of the quarters; and to the lord of Parjanya [the rain], homage to the lord of beings. And to the lord of trees, and likewise the lord of waters; to him whose body is covered by trees, the commander, and the middle one."

God is honored as lord of all that exists — of the quarters, of rain, of trees, of waters, of beings: everything under his sway. It is telling that he is called both "commander" and "the middle one" — both leader and the very center of existence. The verse teaches that no realm of the world lies outside the highest; the one who beholds him as lord of every sphere sees a single Will running through nature, the army, and the very core of things.
