किं वो भयं मानुषेभ्यो यूयं सर्वे यदामराः ॥

Brahma said: "What fear have you of humans, since you are all immortal? Let there never be fear of mortals for you."

Here Brahma marvels at the fear of the immortals before mortals. His words are telling: the immortal ought not fear the mortal -- yet the gods fear not destruction, but the loss of distinction. Here it is shown that even a high position does not free one from anxiety while order is disturbed. Thus scripture shows Brahma's puzzlement; and the gods' answer will disclose the true nature of their fear.
