पाण्डवान् सततं प्रीणास्य् अस्माकं विप्रिये रतान् ॥
अस्मान् एवोपजीवंस् त्वम् अस्माकं विप्रिये रतः ॥
न ह्य् अहं त्वां विजानामि मधुदिग्धम् इव क्षुरम् ॥

"Madhudigdham iva kṣuram", "like a razor smeared with honey" — a cruel word from disciple to teacher: sweetness outside, a blade within. Unjust on Duryodhana's lips, for Drona fights for him even unto death. It is telling that the unrighteous, finding no loyalty in himself, accuses the most loyal of hidden treachery. The verse teaches that the suspicion of untruth poisons even sacred bonds: one blinded by self-interest sees in a devoted teacher "a razor in honey"; and grave is the sin of one who reproaches and insults the very man who gives up his life for him.
