"May Svaha, Svadha, and Shachi grant you well-being always; may Lakshmi and Arundhati grant you well-being, O sinless one. May Asita Devala, Vishvamitra and Angiras, Vasishtha and Kashyapa grant you well-being, O king. May Dhatri, Vidhatri, the lord of the world, and the quarters with their guardian lords bestow well-being upon you today, and six-faced Karttikeya."

The svasti calls upon good from goddesses (Svaha, Svadha, Shachi, Lakshmi, Arundhati), great sages (Vasishtha, Kashyapa, Vishvamitra), and the guardians of the world. It is telling that the blessing gathers together all the auspicious powers of the universe. And yet -- above all of them stands the One who rules destiny itself. The verse teaches that the blessing of many benevolent powers is great, but not unconditional: it is effective only in accord with the will of the Lord; and however many gods and sages one calls to defend the unrighteous, the outcome is decided by the higher truth to which even they are subject.
