ततस् तं विरथं कृत्वा सात्यकिः सत्यविक्रमः ॥
सेनाम् अस्यार्दयाम् आस शरैः संनतपर्वभिः ॥
साभज्यताथ पृतना शैनेयशरपीडिता ॥
ततः प्रायाद् वै त्वरितः सात्यकिः सत्यविक्रमः ॥
शृणु राजन् यद् अकरोत् तव सैन्येषु वीर्यवान् ॥
अतीत्य स महाराज द्रोणानीकमहार्णवम् ॥
tatas taṃ virathaṃ kṛtvā sātyakiḥ satyavikramaḥ ||
senām asyārdayām āsa śaraiḥ saṃnataparvabhiḥ ||
sābhajyatātha pṛtanā śaineyaśarapīḍitā ||
tataḥ prāyād vai tvaritaḥ sātyakiḥ satyavikramaḥ ||
śṛṇu rājan yad akarot tava sainyeṣu vīryavān ||
atītya sa mahārāja droṇānīkamahārṇavam ||
Then, having deprived him of his chariot, Satyaki, of true valor, harried his army with arrows of smooth joints. That host, tormented by the arrows of Shaineya, broke; then Satyaki, of true valor, pressed on swiftly. Listen, o king, to what the mighty one did [in] your armies, having passed, o great king, through the great ocean of Drona's array.

Satyaki does not linger over his triumph over Kritavarman, but "prāyāt tvaritaḥ," hastens onward: his goal is Arjuna, not a private victory. It is telling that one set on the essential is not captivated by intermediate successes. The verse teaches that fidelity to a goal does not let one revel in passing victories: whoever remembers why he set out does not linger over what is already overcome, but presses on toward what is entrusted to him, without spending himself on the glory of side skirmishes.
