त्रिशिखां भृकुटिं कृत्वा संदश्य दशनच्छदम् ॥
भुञ्जानम् अन्नं तं दृष्ट्वा भीमसेनं स राक्षसः ॥
विवृत्य नयने क्रुद्ध इदं वचनम् अब्रवीत् ॥

The scripture sets the demon's fury against the hero's composure. It is telling that all of Baka's rage — his grimaces, his rolling eyes, his earth-splitting stride — breaks against Bhima's serenity as he calmly eats his meal. Crude fury is a sign of weakness of spirit, not of strength: one who is master of himself has no need of terrifying grimaces. So the scripture shows two natures — seething evil and unshaken good — and in this very contrast the outcome is already foretold, for calm is stronger than rage.
