नगरे प्रत्यदृश्यन्त नरैर् नगरवासिभिः ॥
ततो भिमस् तम् आदाय गतासुं पुरुषादकम् ॥
द्वारदेशे विनिक्षिप्य जगामानुपलक्षितः ॥

Translation
"From then on the rakshasas there became gentle and appeared thus to the citizens, O Bharata. Then Bhima, taking the lifeless man-eater and laying him at the gate, went away unnoticed."

Here a twofold fruit of the feat is revealed — lasting peace and the hero's humble anonymity. It is significant that the rakshasas "became gentle": Bhima's deed transformed the very nature of former predators — such is the effect of strength placed in the service of dharma. Significant too is that Bhima departs "unnoticed," having merely laid the body at the gate: one who has accomplished a great deed seeks neither glory nor gratitude. Herein lies a model of selfless service: good is done without display, and the true benefactor conceals himself. Thus the scripture shows that a feat is purer the more unknown it remains; and Bhima, having transformed the land, withdraws into the shadows, claiming for himself not even a shred of honor.
