Here the terrible conflagration comes to its end, healing Agni. It must be understood without embellishment: the death of countless creatures in the fire is grievous, and scripture does not glorify it. Yet Agni, wasted by his ailment, here finds satiety and health, and the deed is called 'engendering safety for the world' — for it was accomplished under the guidance of the two Krishnas, Nara and Narayana, in accord with the higher order. Thus it is revealed that even fearsome events move toward the good when carried out by the Lord's will. Thus scripture shows the outcome of the fire; and here Indra descends.
