स तु तां प्रतिजग्राह मयः सत्कृत्य सत्कृतः ॥
स पूर्वदेवचरितं तत्र तत्र विशां पते ॥
कथयाम् आस दैतेयः पाण्डुपुत्रेषु भारत ॥

kathayām āsa daiteyaḥ pāṇḍuputreṣu bhārata ||

Translation
Vaishampayana said: "To him Yudhishthira then rendered honor as was fitting; and Maya accepted it -- honored and honoring in return. And there, again and again, O lord of peoples, that Daiteya told the sons of Pandu of the deeds of the ancient gods."

Here the king honors the guest, even though he is of the race of asuras. It is significant that Yudhishthira renders honor according to merit, not lineage: righteousness sees in the guest a guest, and in the craftsman a gift, not an enmity of blood. And Maya answers honor with honor, disclosing to the sons of Pandu the legends of the ancient gods. Thus scripture shows mutual respect as the foundation of every good undertaking; and the architect sets about the building.
