षडशीतिः समानीताः शेषा राजंश् चतुर्दश ॥
जरासंधेन राजानस् ततः क्रूरं प्रपत्स्यते ॥
प्राप्नुयात् स यशो दीप्तं तत्र यो विघ्नम् आचरेत् ॥
जयेद् यश् च जरासंधं स सम्राण् नियतं भवेत् ॥

ṣaḍaśītiḥ samānītāḥ śeṣā rājaṃś caturdaśa ||
jarāsaṃdhena rājānas tataḥ krūraṃ prapatsyate ||
prāpnuyāt sa yaśo dīptaṃ tatra yo vighnam ācaret ||
jayed yaś ca jarāsaṃdhaṃ sa samrāṇ niyataṃ bhavet ||

Translation
"Eighty-six kings have already been brought [captive], o king; fourteen remain [needed] by Jarasandha; then he will proceed to his cruel deed. He who creates an obstacle in that [deed] would attain blazing glory; and whoever overcomes Jarasandha will surely become sovereign."

Here the hour of the crime draws near — only fourteen victims are lacking. It is significant that Krishna joins the liberation of the doomed with the attainment of glory: to save the perishing is itself the path to true supremacy. Thus the scripture reveals that true glory is won by deliverance, not by conquest; and further [the design turns into action].
