तदेतत्सुदर्शनं महाचक्रे बालो वा युवा वा वेद स महान्भवति स गुरुः सर्वेषां मन्त्राणामुपदेष्टा भवत्यनुष्टुभा होमं कुर्यादनुष्टुभार्चनं कुर्यात्तदेतद्रक्षोघ्नं मृत्युतारकं गुरुणा लब्धं कण्ठे बाहौ शिखायां वा बध्नीत सप्तद्वीपवती भूमिर्दक्षिणार्थं नावकल्पते तस्माच्छ्रद्धया यां काञ्चिद्गां दद्यात्सा दक्षिणा भवति
tadetatsudarśanaṃ mahācakre bālo vā yuvā vā veda sa mahānbhavati sa guruḥ sarveṣāṃ mantrāṇāmupadeṣṭā bhavatyanuṣṭubhā homaṃ kuryādanuṣṭubhārcanaṃ kuryāttadetadrakṣoghnaṃ mṛtyutārakaṃ guruṇā labdhaṃ kaṇṭhe bāhau śikhāyāṃ vā badhnīta saptadvīpavatī bhūmirdakṣiṇārthaṃ nāvakalpate tasmācchraddhayā yāṃ kāñcidgāṃ dadyātsā dakṣiṇā bhavati
Who knows this Sudarśana, the great circle — whether child or youth — he becomes great and is made a teacher of all mantras. With the anuṣṭubh let him make the offering, with the anuṣṭubh let him make the worship. This slays rākṣasas and ferries over death; and, received from the teacher, let him bind it on the neck, the arm or the lock of hair. The earth with its seven islands is not fit as the fee for this; therefore let him with faith give some cow — that will be the fee.

A paragraph on who may have this and what is paid for it.
The first words decide much: bālo vā yuvā vā — “whether child or youth”.
Age is not named as a condition. And this should be set against the seventh paragraph of the first Upaniṣad, where the estate prohibition stood on the Vedic limbs of the mantra. Here neither age nor estate: the knower becomes a teacher.
Then — the custom of wearing the diagram on oneself: on the neck, on the arm, or plaited into the lock of hair. The custom is alive to this day: a yantra is worn in an amulet.
And the proviso: guruṇā labdham — “received from the teacher”. Not drawn by oneself.
And at the end — that for which the paragraph deserves careful reading.
It is said: the earth with all its seven islands is not fit as the dakṣiṇā, the teacher's fee, for this. That is, there is nothing to pay with: the whole earth is too little.
And the conclusion: “therefore let him with faith give some cow — that will be the fee.”
Here is a measure worth remembering. Since no commensurate payment exists at all, the measure becomes not the size of the gift but śraddhā — the faith with which it is given.
