The turn is constant in the Upaniṣads: after prose one says “here there are these verses” and cites them. We met it in the fifth paragraph of the second Upaniṣad of the pūrva, and in the sixth paragraph of the fifth.
Note that the verses now to follow are among the darkest in the whole book. They speak of a lion, of horns and of sons, and speak in riddle.
This is no rarity. Vedic literature loves to set into its prose verses that cannot be read on their own: they count on the reader's already knowing what is meant.
The three following paragraphs are these verses; and after them, in the sixth, seventh and eighth khaṇḍas, will come three more of the same kind, all about horns.
