सा प्रसादयती देवम् इदं भूयो ऽभ्यभाषत ॥
एकं पतिं गुणोपेतं त्वत्तो ऽर्हामीति वै तदा ॥
तां देवदेवः प्रीतात्मा पुनः प्राह शुभं वचः ॥
पञ्चकृत्वस् त्वया उक्तः पतिं देहीत्य् अहं पुनः ॥
तत् तथा भविता भद्रे तव तद् भद्रम् अस्तु ते ॥
देहम् अन्यं गतायास् ते यथोक्तं तद् भविष्यति ॥
sā prasādayatī devam idaṃ bhūyo 'bhyabhāṣata ||
ekaṃ patiṃ guṇopetaṃ tvatto 'rhāmīti vai tadā ||
tāṃ devadevaḥ prītātmā punaḥ prāha śubhaṃ vacaḥ ||
pañcakṛtvas tvayā uktaḥ patiṃ dehīty ahaṃ punaḥ ||
tat tathā bhavitā bhadre tava tad bhadram astu te ||
deham anyaṃ gatāyās te yathoktaṃ tad bhaviṣyati ||
'She, propitiating the god, again spoke thus: I deserve from you only one husband, endowed with virtues. The god of gods, with a joyful heart, again uttered a gracious word to her: Five times you said to me, Give me a husband; therefore so it shall be, O gracious one — may it be for your good. When you pass into another body, as has been said, it shall come to pass.'

Here it is shown that even a word spoken in prayer carries weight and bears fruit. It is telling that the maiden, having repeated her plea five times, receives five husbands: a word spoken in prayer is not lost, and the very fervor of the plea determined the measure of the boon. This shows that words addressed to God are effective, and so ought to be spoken thoughtfully. The verse reveals the power of a repeated plea, and the unintended 'five times' foreordained Draupadi's fate.
