असुराणां पुराण्य् आसंस् त्रीणि वीर्यवतां दिवि ॥
आयसं राजतं चैव सौवर्णम् अपरं महत् ॥
आयसं तारकाक्षस्य कमलाक्षस्य राजतम् ॥
सौवर्णं परमं ह्य् आसीद् विद्युन्मालिन एव च ॥
न शक्तस् तानि मघवान् भेत्तुं सर्वायुधैर् अपि ॥
अथ सर्वे ऽमरा रुद्रं जग्मुः शरणम् अर्दिताः ॥

Traducción

"The asuras, the mighty ones, had three cities in heaven: iron, silver, and another — golden, great. The iron one was Tarakaksha's, the silver one Kamalaksha's, the supreme golden one was Vidyunmalin's. Maghavan [Indra] was not able to shatter them even with all his weapons; then all the immortals, tormented, went for refuge to Rudra."

Comentario

Before the impregnable cities of the asuras even Indra, with all his weapons, is powerless — and the gods take refuge in Rudra. It is significant that there exist strongholds no ordinary force can take: only the Supreme suffices. The verse teaches that there are obstacles insurmountable by any lesser power; and the wise, once their own means are exhausted, seek refuge in the Supreme — for only He accomplishes what is beyond the reach of all others.
