एष देवो महादेवो यो ऽसौ पार्थ तवाग्रतः ॥
संग्रामे शात्रवान् निघ्नंस् त्वया दृष्टः पिनाकधृक् ॥
एष वै भगवान् देवः संग्रामे याति ते ऽग्रतः ॥
येन दत्तानि ते ऽस्त्राणि यैस् त्वया दानवा हताः ॥
धन्यं यशस्यम् आयुष्यं पुण्यं वेदैश् च संज्ञितम् ॥
देवदेवस्य ते पार्थ व्याख्यातं शतरुद्रियम् ॥
eṣa devo mahādevo yo 'sau pārtha tavāgrataḥ ||
saṃgrāme śātravān nighnaṃs tvayā dṛṣṭaḥ pinākadhṛk ||
eṣa vai bhagavān devaḥ saṃgrāme yāti te 'grataḥ ||
yena dattāni te 'strāṇi yais tvayā dānavā hatāḥ ||
dhanyaṃ yaśasyam āyuṣyaṃ puṇyaṃ vedaiś ca saṃjñitam ||
devadevasya te pārtha vyākhyātaṃ śatarudriyam ||
"This god, Mahadeva, who, O Partha, was seen by you before you in battle striking down foes, holding the Pinaka. This very Bhagavan, the god, goes before you in battle; by him your weapons were given, by which the danavas were slain by you. Bestowing prosperity, fame, longevity, holy and recognized by the Vedas -- of the god of gods, to you, O Partha, I have expounded the Shatarudriya."

Vyasa closes the revelation: the fiery warrior before Arjuna is Mahadeva himself, who gave him his weapons and goes before him. It is significant that the greatest archer conquers not by his own strength alone, but under the guidance of God. The verse teaches that behind every true victory stands the hidden guidance of the Supreme; and the hero who recognizes his unseen Protector fights no longer in pride, but in grateful humility.
