Here fidelity to one's word is crowned with self-renunciation. It is significant that Arjuna willingly departs for twelve years, devoting himself to abstinence: the truthful one fulfills his vow entirely, without bargaining. True dharma reveals itself in readiness to suffer for the sake of truth. Thus the scripture shows Arjuna's sacrificial honesty; and his exile, begun for the sake of truth, will turn into new blessings along the way.
