विहारदेशं संप्राप्य नानाद्रुमवद् उत्तमम् ॥
गृहैर् उच्चावचैर् युक्तं पुरंदरगृहोपमम् ॥
भक्ष्यैर् भोज्यैश् च पेयैश् च रसवद्भिर् महाधनैः ॥
माल्यैश् च विविधैर् युक्तं युक्तं वार्ष्णेयपार्थयोः ॥
आविवेशतुर् आपूर्णं रत्नैर् उच्चावचैः शुभैः ॥
यथोपजोषं सर्वश् च जनश् चिक्रीड भारत ॥
vihāradeśaṃ saṃprāpya nānādrumavad uttamam ||
gṛhair uccāvacair yuktaṃ puraṃdaragṛhopamam ||
bhakṣyair bhojyaiś ca peyaiś ca rasavadbhir mahādhanaiḥ ||
mālyaiś ca vividhair yuktaṃ yuktaṃ vārṣṇeyapārthayoḥ ||
āviveśatur āpūrṇaṃ ratnair uccāvacaiḥ śubhaiḥ ||
yathopajoṣaṃ sarvaś ca janaś cikrīḍa bhārata ||
"Having reached the place for the outing, excellent, with various trees, furnished with tall and low houses, resembling the house of Indra, with delicacies, food, drinks, savory, costly, and various garlands — a place befitting Varshneya and Partha — they entered it, filled with various beautiful jewels; and all the people amused themselves at their pleasure, O Bharata."

Here permitted rest is enjoyed in its proper season. It is telling that even the great give themselves to an outing: in the fitting time, even those advanced in spirit allow themselves recreation. Joy, in measure and in its due season, is not contrary to dharma. Thus scripture reveals a gracious leisure; and amid it something wondrous is about to unfold.
