ततः शक्रो ऽभिसंक्रुद्धस् त्रिदशानां महेश्वरः ॥
पाण्डुरं गजम् आस्थाय ताव् उभौ समभिद्रवत् ॥
अशनिं गृह्य तरसा वज्रम् अस्त्रम् अवासृजत् ॥
हताव् एताव् इति प्राह सुरान् असुरसूदनः ॥

Then Shakra, enraged, the great lord of the gods, mounting his white elephant, charged at the two of them; seizing the thunderbolt, he swiftly hurled the vajra weapon; "These two are slain," said the slayer of asuras to the gods.

Here the king of the gods himself enters the battle, imagining victory. Telling is his hasty cry, "these two are slain" — Indra rejoices too soon. Even the lord of the gods deceives himself, thinking he can overcome the Lord. Thus the text reveals Indra's boldness; and his self-assurance will soon be humbled.
