गिरेर् विशीर्यमाणस्य तस्य रूपं तदा बभौ ॥
सार्कचन्द्रग्रहस्येव नभसः प्रविशीर्यतः ॥
तेनावाक्पतता दावे शैलेन महता भृशम् ॥
भूय एव हतास् तत्र प्राणिनः खाण्डवालयाः ॥

Here even a deflected blow multiplies the death of creatures. Telling is it that the falling fragments of the mountain again destroy the living: dreadful is this battle, in which even the uninvolved perish. But here too is a bitter insight: great warfare brings innocent victims in its wake; the text does not conceal this bitterness. Thus the text shows the weight of these events; and one who feels compassion grieves to witness the death of creatures, remembering that all unfolds within the Lord's unfathomable design.
