तेषाम् तथा एव ताम् लक्ष्मीम्teṣām tathā eva tām lakṣmīmtheir fortune [glory]

Here the root of evil is revealed: a ruler sowing discord among kings for his own advancement. It is telling that Jarasandha "pondered mutual discord" — a tyrant grows strong by dividing others, and his power lies in weakening those around him. Scripture thus shows that one who divides for the sake of power stands against the dharma of unity; and next come his accomplices.
