चारुदेष्णः सह भ्रात्रा चक्रदेवो ऽथ सात्यकिः ॥
अहं च रौहिणेयश् च साम्बः शौरिसमो युधि ॥
एवम् एते रथाः सप्त राजन्न् अन्यान् निबोध मे ॥
कृतवर्मा अनाधृष्टिः समीकः समितिंजयः ॥
कह्वः शङ्कुर् निदान्तश् च सप्तैवैते महारथाः ॥
पुत्रौ चान्धकभोजस्य वृद्धो राजा च ते दश ॥
cārudeṣṇaḥ saha bhrātrā cakradevo 'tha sātyakiḥ ||
ahaṃ ca rauhiṇeyaś ca sāmbaḥ śaurisamo yudhi ||
evam ete rathāḥ sapta rājann anyān nibodha me ||
kṛtavarmā anādhṛṣṭiḥ samīkaḥ samitiṃjayaḥ ||
kahvaḥ śaṅkur nidāntaś ca saptaivaite mahārathāḥ ||
putrau cāndhakabhojasya vṛddho rājā ca te daśa ||
"Charudeshna with his brother, Chakradeva, Satyaki, I and Rauhineya [Balarama], Samba equal to Shauri [Krishna] in battle — these charioteers are seven in all, O king; learn of the others from me: Kritavarma, Anadhrishti, Samika, Samitinjaya, Kahva, Shanku, and Nidanta — these seven are maharathas; and the two sons of Andhakabhoja, and the old king — ten of them in all."

Here Krishna places himself in the common rank of warriors, without setting himself apart. It is telling that the Lord, descended as a man, numbers himself among the heroes of his clan: such is His humility that He does not display His own greatness. Thus scripture shows the Lord's self-effacement in human form; and what follows tells of these heroes' readiness.
