स भवान् मयि निक्षेपो निक्षिप्तः सव्यसाचिना ॥
भारद्वाजाद् भयं नित्यं पश्यमानेन ते प्रभो ॥
तस्यापि च महाबाहो नित्यं पश्यति संयुगे ॥
नान्यं हि प्रतियोद्धारं रौक्मिणेयाद् ऋते प्रभो ॥
मां वापि मन्यते युद्धे भारद्वाजस्य धीमतः ॥
सो ऽहं संभावनां चैताम् आचार्यवचनं च तत् ॥
पृष्ठतो नोत्सहे कर्तुं त्वां वा त्यक्तुं महीपते ॥
sa bhavān mayi nikṣepo nikṣiptaḥ savyasācinā ||
bhāradvājād bhayaṃ nityaṃ paśyamānena te prabho ||
tasyāpi ca mahābāho nityaṃ paśyati saṃyuge ||
nānyaṃ hi pratiyoddhāraṃ raukmiṇeyād ṛte prabho ||
māṃ vāpi manyate yuddhe bhāradvājasya dhīmataḥ ||
so 'haṃ saṃbhāvanāṃ caitām ācāryavacanaṃ ca tat ||
pṛṣṭhato notsahe kartuṃ tvāṃ vā tyaktuṃ mahīpate ||
'You are that pledge entrusted to me by Savyasachin, who constantly perceives a threat to you from the son of Bharadvaja, O lord. And he, O mighty-armed one, always sees in battle no other opponent for him except the son of Rukmini [Pradyumna], O lord.' I am one who dares not set aside this trust and that word of the teacher, nor abandon you, O lord of the earth.

The king is called 'nikṣepa', a pledge given for safekeeping: the highest measure of trust is to place someone dear into another's protection. Satyaki dares neither break the 'ācāryavacana', the teacher's word, nor abandon the king. It is significant that what is entrusted for safekeeping is sacred. The verse teaches that an accepted pledge binds unconditionally: whoever is entrusted with something dear is bound by duty to guard it as a sacred trust, and to betray such trust would be the gravest of treacheries — hence Satyaki's torment, unwilling to fail either of the hopes placed upon him.
