ततः वयम् अमित्र-घ्नtataḥ vayam amitra-ghnathen we, O slayer of foes,
तस्मिन् प्रतिगते नृपेtasmin pratigate nṛpe[when] that king withdrew,
पुनः आनन्दिताः सर्वेpunaḥ ānanditāḥ sarveall rejoicing once more,
मथुरायाम् वसामहेmathurāyām vasāmahesettled in Mathura;
यदा तु अभ्येत्य पितरम्yadā tu abhyetya pitarambut when, coming to her father,
सा वै राजीव-लोचनाsā vai rājīva-locanāthat lotus-eyed one,
कंस-भार्या जरासंधम्kaṃsa-bhāryā jarāsaṃdhamthe widow of Kamsa, to Jarasandha,
दुहिता मागधम् नृपम्duhitā māgadham nṛpamhis daughter, to the king of Magadha,
चोदयति एव राज-इन्द्रcodayati eva rāja-indraurges [him], O lord of kings,
पति-व्यसन-दुःखिताpati-vyasana-duḥkhitāafflicted by widowhood:

Here a widow's grief kindles enmity.
