मथुरां संपरित्यज्य गता द्वारवतीं पुरीम् ॥
यदि त्व् एनं महाराज यज्ञं प्राप्तुम् इहेच्छसि ॥
यतस्व तेषां मोक्षाय जरासंधवधाय च ॥

"And we, O great king, out of fear of Jarasandha, abandoned Mathura and went away to the city of Dvaravati. If, then, you wish to obtain this sacrifice, O great king, strive for the release of those captive kings and for the slaying of Jarasandha."

Here the purpose of the undertaking is stated directly: the release of captives and the overthrow of a tyrant. It is significant that the glory of the Rajasuya is bound up with the deliverance of the oppressed -- true greatness is won not by conquest but by liberation. Scripture thus shows that the path to the highest honor lies through the protection of the weak; and Krishna's conclusion follows.
