The opening of the Muṇḍaka's last section — the final sorting of the paths. sa vedaitat paramaṁ brahma dhāma — "he knows this supreme abode of Brahman" — yatra viśvaṁ nihitaṁ bhāti śubhram — "where all is laid up and shines resplendent": dhāman is abode-and-radiance: the world seen within God, not outside Him.
upāsate puruṣaṁ ye hy akāmāḥ — "who without desires worship the Puruṣa": here is the formula the whole Upaniṣad has been moving toward: upāsanā (worship, veneration — that very upāsanā with which the arrow was sharpened in 2.2.3!) + akāma (freedom from self-interest) + puruṣa (the Person as the object): selfless worship of the Person is what the Muṇḍaka names the highest path. te śukram etad ativartanti dhīrāḥ — "those wise ones pass beyond this seed": śukra is semen, the very root of repeated births; those who desire are born according to their desires (the next verse), while those who worship without desire pass above the seed of births, conceiving no new bodies for themselves.
The roads have parted for good: desire — seed — birth; or worship — selflessness — freedom. Note: not "knowledge versus worship" — the knower of the abode and the worshipper of the Puruṣa are here one and the same man: in maturity, knowing and devotion are as indistinguishable as the light and the heat of one fire.
