तत् एतत् ऋचा अभ्युक्तम् ।
क्रियावन्तः श्रोत्रियाः ब्रह्मनिष्ठाः स्वयं जुह्वतः एकर्षिं श्रद्धयन्तः ।
तेषाम् एव एतां ब्रह्मविद्यां वदेत शिरोव्रतं विधिवत् यैः तु चीर्णम् ॥

The penultimate verse — the statute of transmission. Four seals of admission: kriyāvantaḥ — "performing the rites": not those who despise works (the Muṇḍaka humbled karma — but it hands knowledge not to the idle but to the active!); śrotriyāḥ — knowers of the śruti; brahma-niṣṭhāḥ — established in Brahman; svayaṁ juhvata ekarṣiṁ śraddhayantaḥ — "themselves offering with faith to the fire Ekarṣi" — "the one seer", the fire of the Atharvan tradition: a living personal sacrifice, not one made by proxy.
teṣām evaitāṁ brahma-vidyāṁ vadeta — "to them — to them alone — let this brahma-vidyā be told": eva is restrictive: not to everyone. Knowledge given to the unready perishes in him and ruins him (through pride, through distortion); the tradition guards not a secret from people but people from what they cannot yet bear.
śiro-vrataṁ vidhivad yais tu cīrṇam — "and by whom the vow of the head has been duly performed": the Atharvan rite of fire upon the head — but an eternal sense is audible too: a head bowed and "shaven" (muṇḍaka!) of pride and excess — that is the final pass. The Upaniṣad of the razor is handed to the shaven: to those who have already cut away what the ego held on to.
