ānandaḥ brahma iti vyajānāt ānandāt hi eva khalu imāni bhūtāni jāyante ānandena jātāni jīvanti ānandam prayanti abhisaṃviśanti iti sā eṣā bhārgavī vāruṇī vidyā parame vyoman pratiṣṭhitā saḥ yaḥ evam veda pratitiṣṭhati annavān annādaḥ bhavati mahān bhavati prajayā paśubhiḥ brahmavarcasena mahān kīrtyā
He discerned: "Bliss is Brahman: for out of bliss these beings are born, by bliss, being born, they live, into bliss they pass and enter." This is the knowledge of Bhṛgu, the knowledge of Varuṇa, established in the highest space. He who knows thus is established: he becomes possessed of food, an eater of food; he becomes great in offspring, in cattle, in the radiance of Brahman, great in fame.

The fifth step — and then silence: ānando brahmeti vyajānāt — "he discerned: bliss is Brahman". The test fits for the last time and perfectly: out of bliss beings are born (the world was born of the desire of the Rejoicing One — the second vallī: "He desired: let Me become many"; and every living thing is conceived in joy), by bliss they live (verse 19: who would breathe if ānanda were not at the base?), into bliss they pass (every death is a return into the Ground, and the Ground is Savour). Note: after this answer Bhṛgu does not go to his father — there is nowhere to carry the question: the thirst is slaked; and the father does not send him further — Varuṇa's silence is his final "correct".
sā eṣā bhārgavī vāruṇī vidyā — "this is the knowledge of Bhārgava, of Varuṇa": the science receives a double name — of the son who won it and of the father who guided: parame vyoman pratiṣṭhitā — "established in the highest space": the same place as Brahman Himself (2.1: "in the secret place, in the highest space"): the knowledge is kept at the height of which it speaks.
Bhṛgu's ladder is the eternal map of ascents: matter — life — mind — intelligence — bliss; and its summit is not a "cold truth" but ānanda: the last word about Reality is Joy. He who has arrived pratitiṣṭhati, "is established": he stands unshaken and bears fruit in everything — food, family, radiance, fame: one who has found the Savour is poor in nothing.
