A term is named: muhurta-dvaya, "two muhurtas," that is, about an hour and a half. This term is large, and it must be said plainly. An hour and a half of daily bodily exercise is, by present standards, the occupation of a man who has no other business; and in ancient times that is exactly how it was: the practitioner lived in a forest or a hermitage, and was fed.
Hence the chief practical objection the Vaishnava side raises against this path, constantly and without any mockery. This path is not so much bad as unworkable for a man with a job, a family, and duties; and for one who abandoned job and family for its sake, it most often turns out to be a way of fleeing his obligations rather than a way to God. Also worth noting is the word nirbhayat, "without fear." It is said that one must move without being afraid; and this reservation, within a description of an exercise, means that there is something to be afraid of — otherwise fear would not be mentioned.
All this the book says itself and does not hide; and so the reproach here is not of concealment, but perhaps that it is addressed to very few. It is worth adding that muhurta is a thirtieth part of a day and night, about forty-eight minutes; and this measure is constant in these books. Two muhurtas is the length of the morning temple service, start to finish.
