A softening: a meeting does occur after all, but for kaschit, "someone," and kvachit, "at times." These two indefinite words stand side by side and both mean the same thing: not for everyone, and not for certain. Worth noting is that in a book that promised immortality in its second line, this is an unexpected sobriety. Everyone who took it up was promised it; but here it says — for someone, sometime.
Worth noting too is the phrase tad-bhava-sadhitam, "attained by that state." That is, practice leads not directly to a meeting, but to a state, in which a meeting becomes possible. The Vaishnava side expresses the very same thing in her own order of stages, discussed when reading the fiftieth line: faith, association, occupation, purification, firmness, taste, attachment, feeling, love (Bhagavatam 1.2.16–20). The first five depend on the man; the rest do not; and between the fifth and sixth lies exactly the line spoken of here.
This line, I think, is the most important thing worth knowing for anyone engaged in anything of this kind. There is a point one reaches by labor, and after which labor does not help. Not knowing this, a man, reaching this point, decides he is doing something wrong and redoubles his effort — but one should not redouble it, but wait and ask.
