अधश्चोर्ध्वं प्रसृतास्तस्य शाखा
गुणप्रवृद्धा विषयप्रवालाः ।
अधश्च मूलान्यनुसन्ततानि
कर्मानुबन्धीनि मनुष्यलोके ॥

adhaś cordhvaṁ prasṛtās tasya śākhā
guṇa-pravṛddhā viṣaya-pravālāḥ |
adhaś ca mūlāny anusaṁtatāni
karmānubandhīni manuṣya-loke ||

कर्मानुबन्धीनिkarma-anubandhīnibinding (anubandhīni) through action (karma).
मनुष्यलोकेmanuṣya-lokein the world of humans.
Translation
“The branches of this tree spread upward and downward, nourished by the three modes (guṇas) of material nature, and its shoots are the objects of the senses. Downward too, into the world of humans, spread its secondary roots, which bind the soul to the consequences of its actions (karma).”
