आपूर्णकोशाः किल मे मातरः पितरस् तथा ॥
भयात् सर्वेषु लोकेषु नाधिजग्मुः परायणम् ॥
तान् भृगूणां तदा दारान् कश् चिन् नाभ्यवपद्यत ॥
यदा तदा दधारेयम् ऊरुणैकेन मां शुभा ॥

bhayāt sarveṣu lokeṣu nādhijagmuḥ parāyaṇam ||
tān bhṛgūṇāṃ tadā dārān kaś cin nābhyavapadyata ||
yadā tadā dadhāreyam ūruṇaikena māṃ śubhā ||

Translation

Here the bitterness of the persecuted's helplessness shows itself. It is telling that in "all the worlds" no refuge was found for the innocent: when evil triumphs, the suffering have nowhere to hide. From this one sees how terrible is a world that leaves the defenseless without help, and how needed is a protector for the weak. Telling too is that the sole shelter became a mother's thigh, which preserved the seed of the lineage. Thus the scripture shows the loneliness of the persecuted and the guilt of a world that gave them no shelter; and from this very bitterness is born both Aurva's anger and the understanding of the duty to protect.
