दूत उवाच
जन्यार्थम् अन्नं द्रुपदेन राज्ञा; विवाहहेतोर् उपसंस्कृतं च ॥
तद् आप्नुवध्वं कृतसर्वकार्याः; कृष्णा च तत्रैव चिरं न कार्यम् ॥
इमे रथाः काञ्चनपद्मचित्राः; सदश्वयुक्ता वसुधाधिपार्हाः ॥
एतान् समारुह्य परैत सर्वे; पाञ्चालराजस्य निवेशनं तत् ॥
dūta uvāca
janyārtham annaṃ drupadena rājñā; vivāhahetor upasaṃskṛtaṃ ca ||
tad āpnuvadhvaṃ kṛtasarvakāryāḥ; kṛṣṇā ca tatraiva ciraṃ na kāryam ||
ime rathāḥ kāñcanapadmacitrāḥ; sadaśvayuktā vasudhādhipārhāḥ ||
etān samāruhya paraita sarve; pāñcālarājasya niveśanaṃ tat ||
The messenger said: "The food prepared by King Drupada for the wedding guests for the sake of the marriage -- partake of it, having performed all the rites, and let Krishna go there too; there must be no delay. Here are chariots, adorned with golden lotuses, yoked with fine horses, worthy of a lord of the earth -- mounting them, go all of you to the dwelling of the Panchala king."

Here hospitality summons beggar-guests as though they were kings. It is telling that gilded chariots are sent for men who live on alms: Drupada honors his future sons-in-law even before their worth is confirmed. True honor is rendered according to the dignity of the soul, not according to one's present lot. So the scripture shows Drupada's generosity, and destitute wanderers are called for as kings.
