Vaishampayana said: "With Dhritarashtra's permission, together with Krishna, the Pandavas -- tigers among men, scourges of their foes -- having obtained the kingdom, rejoiced; having obtained the kingdom, the greatly resplendent Yudhishthira, true to his vow, ruled the earth according to dharma together with his brothers."

Here righteous kingship shows itself. It is telling that Yudhishthira 'rules according to dharma': for him power is service to the law, not self-indulgence. Here appears the image of the dharmic king, under whom the earth prospers. Thus the scripture shows the beginning of righteous rule; and the brothers govern together, in harmony.
