कूपाश् च सप्रस्रवणा देहवन्तो युधिष्ठिर ॥
पल्वलानि तडागानि देहवन्त्य् अथ भारत ॥
दिशस् तथा मही चैव तथा सर्वे महीधराः ॥
उपासते महात्मानं सर्वे जलचरास् तथा ॥

Translation
"Wells with their springs, embodied, Yudhishthira, ponds and reservoirs, embodied, O Bharata, the quarters of the sky and the earth, and all the mountains, and all creatures that move in water — [all] worship the great-souled one."

Here even wells, ponds, and the quarters of the sky appear as ensouled beings. It is significant that to the Vedic eye nothing is without soul: all of nature partakes of consciousness and turns toward its lord. Thus scripture reveals the ensouled nature of all creation; and next come the celestial singers attending Varuna.
