Translation

Among the Rudras, Raudrī; among the followers of Brahman, Brāhmī; among the gods, Daivī; among men, Mānavī; among the Vināyakas, the Remover of Obstacles; among the Ādityas, Light; among the gandharvas, Gāndharvī; among the apsarases, Gau; among the Vasus, Kāmyā; in hiddenness, the Revealer; she, manifesting and concealing, abides in her own abode.

Commentary

The twelve forms are distributed among classes of beings, and each is given a feminine name: Raudrī, Brāhmī, Daivī, Mānavī and the rest.

The feminine gender is no accident: this is śakti, the Lord's power, manifesting according to the one in whom she abides. Mantra 70 spoke of this same power, calling Rukmiṇī "the root nature", and mantra 71 linked her to the cowherd women of Vraja.

Among the names stands Gāndharvī too — the very name given to the best of the cowherd women in mantra 12. So the question she asked and the answer to it turn out to be linked: the questioner bears the name of one of the forms.

The last words describe the most essential thing: she "manifesting and concealing, abides in her own abode". Manifestation and concealment are not two different states but her own manner of acting.

Hence a comfort for those who do not see: concealment is one of the forms of presence, not an absence.
