तस्य निष्पिष्यमाणस्य पाण्डवस्य च गर्जतः ॥
अभवत् तुमुलो नादः सर्वप्राणिभयंकरः ॥
वित्रेसुर् मागधाः सर्वे स्त्रीणां गर्भाश् च सुस्रुवुः ॥
भीमसेनस्य नादेन जरासंधस्य चैव ह ॥
किं नु स्विद् धिमवान् भिन्नः किं नु स्विद् दीर्यते मही ॥
इति स्म मागधा जज्ञुर् भीमसेनस्य निस्वनात् ॥
tasya niṣpiṣyamāṇasya pāṇḍavasya ca garjataḥ ||
abhavat tumulo nādaḥ sarvaprāṇibhayaṃkaraḥ ||
vitresur māgadhāḥ sarve strīṇāṃ garbhāś ca susruvuḥ ||
bhīmasenasya nādena jarāsaṃdhasya caiva ha ||
kiṃ nu svid dhimavān bhinnaḥ kiṃ nu svid dīryate mahī ||
iti sma māgadhā jajñur bhīmasenasya nisvanāt ||
From the king being crushed and from the roaring Pandava arose a tumultuous roar, terrifying to all living beings. All the Magadhans trembled, and the fruits in women's wombs miscarried — from the roar of Bhimasena and of Jarasandha. "Has the Himavan not split apart? Is the earth not bursting open?" — so thought the Magadhans at the voice of Bhimasena.

The tyrant's fall echoes through all of nature: the townspeople shudder, fruits are shaken loose, and it seems as though the Himalayas have split and the earth has cracked open. It is significant that the death of one who oppressed many is felt as a tremor of the world — for unrighteous power had pressed upon the very order of being. The verse teaches that when a great evil is removed, a shudder passes through creation, but relief follows after it; the terrible din proclaims not destruction, but the overthrow of the burden that weighed upon all.
