"And to Dhrishtadyumna of Panchala he said this, o ruler of people: 'Charge quickly at Drona -- why do you stand still, son of Prishata? Do you not see the terrible danger from Drona come upon us? Yonder Drona, the great archer, plays in battle with Yuyudhana as a child plays with a bird tied by a string. Let all the chariot warriors led by Bhimasena go there, joined with you, prepared -- toward Yuyudhana's chariot. I shall follow behind you with my troops. Free Satyaki now, who has fallen into the jaws of Yama.'"

Yudhishthira does not delay for his friend's sake: 'sātyakiṃ mokṣayasva', deliver him, fallen 'yamadaṃṣṭrāntaram', into the very jaws of Yama. He sends the best and follows himself. It is telling that the King of Dharma cares above all for the rescue of a devoted one. The verse teaches that true friendship counts no danger: seeing one dear to him in mortal peril, a friend rouses all to help and takes his own place in the ranks -- for to leave a friend in the jaws of death would be a betrayal of the very duty of love.
