"Reflecting among all warriors, O bull of the line of Shini, I know not, O Satyaki, of anyone who is a better friend than you. And as Keshava is ever the refuge of the Pandavas, so too are you, O Varshneya, equal to Krishna in valor. I shall lay that burden upon you — be pleased to bear it; and you must not bring my wish to nothing. For Arjuna's sake — your friend and peer, who is also your teacher in battle — perform, in this distress, the deed of help, O bull among men."

Yudhishthira places Satyaki alongside Keshava: kṛṣṇatulyaparākramaḥ, equal to Krishna in valor — the highest praise for a devoted one. And Arjuna is called Satyaki's guru — his teacher in arms: to serve a friend is also to honor a teacher. It is telling that the bonds of friendship, discipleship, and valor are woven into a single duty. The verse teaches that true devotion unites love and reverence: to serve a dear friend who is at the same time one's teacher is a double duty, and to fulfill it in the hour of his distress is the highest honor.
