युगपच् च समेतानां कार्याणां त्वं विचक्षणः ॥
महार्थं लघुसंयुक्तं कर्तुम् अर्हसि माधव ॥
तस्य मे सर्वकार्येषु कार्यम् एतन् मतं सदा ॥
अर्जुनस्य परित्राणं कर्तव्यम् इति संयुगे ॥
नाहं शोचामि दाशार्हं गोप्तारं जगतः प्रभुम् ॥
स हि शक्तो रणे तात त्रींल् लोकान् अपि संगतान् ॥
विजेतुं पुरुषव्याघ्र सत्यम् एतद् ब्रवीमि ते ॥
किं पुनर् धार्तराष्ट्रस्य बलम् एतत् सुदुर्बलम् ॥
अर्जुनस् त्व् एव वार्ष्णेय पीडितो बहुभिर् युधि ॥
प्रजह्यात् समरे प्राणांस् तस्माद् विन्दामि कश्मलम् ॥
तस्य त्वं पदवीं गच्छ गच्छेयुस् त्वादृशा यथा ॥
तादृशस्येदृशे काले मादृशेनाभिचोदितः ॥
yugapac ca sametānāṃ kāryāṇāṃ tvaṃ vicakṣaṇaḥ ||
mahārthaṃ laghusaṃyuktaṃ kartum arhasi mādhava ||
tasya me sarvakāryeṣu kāryam etan mataṃ sadā ||
arjunasya paritrāṇaṃ kartavyam iti saṃyuge ||
nāhaṃ śocāmi dāśārhaṃ goptāraṃ jagataḥ prabhum ||
sa hi śakto raṇe tāta trīṃl lokān api saṃgatān ||
vijetuṃ puruṣavyāghra satyam etad bravīmi te ||
kiṃ punar dhārtarāṣṭrasya balam etat sudurbalam ||
arjunas tv eva vārṣṇeya pīḍito bahubhir yudhi ||
prajahyāt samare prāṇāṃs tasmād vindāmi kaśmalam ||
tasya tvaṃ padavīṃ gaccha gaccheyus tvādṛśā yathā ||
tādṛśasyedṛśe kāle mādṛśenābhicoditaḥ ||
"And among tasks converging at once, you are skilled; a weighty matter, joined with swiftness, you must accomplish, O Madhava. Of all my cares, this I always deem the foremost task — Arjuna's rescue must be accomplished in battle. It is not for the Dasharha [Krishna] that I grieve, the guardian of the world, the lord, for he is able in battle, O honored one, to conquer even the three worlds united, O tiger among men — this truth I speak to you; what then is there to say of Dhritarashtra's army, so utterly feeble. But Arjuna, O Varshneya, hard-pressed by many in battle, might give up his life in the fight — for this I fall into despair. Go you by his path, as those like you would go."

Yudhishthira confesses his faith: 'nāhaṃ śocāmi dāśārham' — he does not worry about Krishna, for He, 'goptā jagataḥ prabhuḥ', the guardian and lord of the world, alone is able to conquer even the three worlds. It is telling that his anxiety concerns only Arjuna, a mortal, while for the Lord there is not a shadow of fear. The verse teaches how to distinguish the perishable from the imperishable: one does not grieve for the Supreme, for He is self-sufficient and unconquerable; the righteous one's concern is for those He protects, for those within death's power, not for Him who is Himself the shelter of all.
