अष्टाशीतिसहस्राणि यतीनाम् ऊर्ध्वरेतसाम् ॥
प्रजावतां च पञ्चाशद् ऋषीणाम् अपि पाण्डव ॥
ते स्म तत्र यथाकामं दृष्ट्वा सर्वे दिवौकसः ॥
प्रणम्य शिरसा तस्मै प्रतियान्ति यथागतम् ॥

"Eighty-eight thousand chaste ascetics and fifty sages who have offspring, O Pandava; all of them, and [other] celestials, having beheld Him there to their heart's content and bowed their heads before Him, return as they came."

Here even the greatest ascetics, having beheld the Creator, only bow and depart. It is telling that beholding the Highest is not a right to remain but a grace granted for a moment: even the saints receive it humbly. Thus the scripture reveals a reverent measure in communion with the divine; and next comes Brahma's reception of his guests.
