किम् कर्म तेन आचरितम्kim karma tena ācaritamWhat deed has been performed by him,
तपः वा नियत-व्रतम्tapaḥ vā niyata-vratamor what austerity, [or] strict vow,
येन असौ सह शक्रेणyena asau saha śakreṇaby which he, on equal terms with Shakra,
स्पर्धते स्म महा-यशाःspardhate sma mahā-yaśāḥcontends, the greatly renowned one?
पितृ-लोक-गतः च अपिpitṛ-loka-gataḥ ca apiand having gone to the world of ancestors,
त्वया विप्र पिता ममtvayā vipra pitā mamaby you, O brahmana, my father
दृष्टः पाण्डुः महा-भागःdṛṣṭaḥ pāṇḍuḥ mahā-bhāgaḥhas been seen — the greatly blessed Pandu;
कथम् च असि समागतःkatham ca asi samāgataḥand how did you meet [him]?
किम् उक्तवान् च भगवन्kim uktavān ca bhagavanand what did he say, O lord —
एतत् इच्छामि वेदितुम्etat icchāmi veditumthis I wish to know,
त्वत्तः श्रोतुम् अहम् सर्वम्tvattaḥ śrotum aham sarvamto hear everything from you,
परम् कौतूहलम् हि मेparam kautūhalam hi mefor great is my curiosity."
