किं कर्म तेनाचरितं तपो वा नियतव्रतम् ॥
येनासौ सह शक्रेण स्पर्धते स्म महायशाः ॥
पितृलोकगतश् चापि त्वया विप्र पिता मम ॥
दृष्टः पाण्डुर् महाभागः कथं चासि समागतः ॥
किम् उक्तवांश् च भगवन्न् एतद् इच्छामि वेदितुम् ॥
त्वत्तः श्रोतुम् अहं सर्वं परं कौतूहलं हि मे ॥

स्पर्धते स्म महा-यशाःspardhate sma mahā-yaśāḥcontends, the greatly renowned one?
पितृ-लोक-गतः च अपिpitṛ-loka-gataḥ ca apiand having gone to the world of ancestors,
त्वया विप्र पिता ममtvayā vipra pitā mamaby you, O brahmana, my father
दृष्टः पाण्डुः महा-भागःdṛṣṭaḥ pāṇḍuḥ mahā-bhāgaḥhas been seen — the greatly blessed Pandu;
कथम् च असि समागतःkatham ca asi samāgataḥand how did you meet [him]?
किम् उक्तवान् च भगवन्kim uktavān ca bhagavanand what did he say, O lord —
एतत् इच्छामि वेदितुम्etat icchāmi veditumthis I wish to know,
त्वत्तः श्रोतुम् अहम् सर्वम्tvattaḥ śrotum aham sarvamto hear everything from you,
परम् कौतूहलम् हि मेparam kautūhalam hi mefor great is my curiosity."

译文

"What deed has he performed, what austerity or strict vow, that the greatly renowned one contends with Shakra himself? And has my father, the greatly blessed Pandu, who has gone to the world of ancestors, been seen by you, O brahmana? How did you meet him and what did he say, O lord — this I wish to know, to hear everything from you, for great is my curiosity."
