अनुयाय तु कौन्तेयः पुत्राणां ते महद् बलम् ॥
विव्याध समरे राजन् कौरवेयान् समन्ततः ॥
वध्यमाना महाराज भीमसेनेन तावकाः ॥
त्यक्त्वा भीमं रणे यान्ति चोदयन्तो हयोत्तमान् ॥
तांस् तु निर्जित्य समरे भीमसेनो महाबलः ॥
सिंहनादरवं चक्रे बाहुशब्दं च पाण्डवः ॥
तलशब्दं च सुमहत् कृत्वा भीमो महाबलः ॥
व्यतीत्य रथिनश् चापि द्रोणानीकम् उपाद्रवत् ॥
anuyāya tu kaunteyaḥ putrāṇāṃ te mahad balam ||
vivyādha samare rājan kauraveyān samantataḥ ||
vadhyamānā mahārāja bhīmasenena tāvakāḥ ||
tyaktvā bhīmaṃ raṇe yānti codayanto hayottamān ||
tāṃs tu nirjitya samare bhīmaseno mahābalaḥ ||
siṃhanādaravaṃ cakre bāhuśabdaṃ ca pāṇḍavaḥ ||
talaśabdaṃ ca sumahat kṛtvā bhīmo mahābalaḥ ||
vyatītya rathinaś cāpi droṇānīkam upādravat ||

Bhima crowns the rout with a lion's roar and a clap of his arms — a sign of triumph and a signal agreed upon with his brother. It is telling that even in the heat of battle he remembers his promise to Yudhishthira, to give the sign. The verse teaches that the faithful do not forget a pledge even in the thick of action: amid triumph over the enemy he still gives the appointed sign to the one he loves, for remembrance of a dear one lives in him even in the midst of battle.
