ताव् अन्तरिक्षम् उत्पत्य दैत्यौ कामगमाव् उभौ ॥
देवानाम् एव भवनं जग्मतुर् युद्धदुर्मदौ ॥
तयोर् आगमनं ज्ञात्वा वरदानं च तत् प्रभोः ॥
हित्वा त्रिविष्टपं जग्मुर् ब्रह्मलोकं ततः सुराः ॥

tāv antarikṣam utpatya daityau kāmagamāv ubhau ||
devānām eva bhavanaṃ jagmatur yuddhadurmadau ||
tayor āgamanaṃ jñātvā varadānaṃ ca tat prabhoḥ ||
hitvā triviṣṭapaṃ jagmur brahmalokaṃ tataḥ surāḥ ||

Translation
"Those two daityas, both able to go wherever they wished, soaring into the sky, rushed straight to the very abode of the gods, frenzied for battle; learning of their arrival and of that boon of the lord, the gods, abandoning heaven, then departed to the world of Brahmā."

Here even the gods retreat before power granted from on high. It is telling that the celestials leave heaven upon learning of Brahmā's boon: before invulnerability granted by the creator himself, even the gods are powerless. Here is the lesson: evil, temporarily clothed in inviolability, triumphs — until the hour of judgment arrives. Thus the scripture shows the triumph of the asuras; and the retreat of the gods only postpones the inevitable.
