ततः सर्वां महीं जेतुम् आरब्धाव् उग्रशासनौ ॥
सैनिकांश् च समाहूय सुतीक्ष्णां वाचम् ऊचतुः ॥
राजर्षयो महायज्ञैर् हव्यकव्यैर् द्विजातयः ॥
तेजो बलं च देवानां वर्धयन्ति श्रियं तथा ॥
तेषाम् एवं प्रवृद्धानां सर्वेषाम् असुरद्विषाम् ॥
संभूय सर्वैर् अस्माभिः कार्यः सर्वात्मना वधः ॥
tataḥ sarvāṃ mahīṃ jetum ārabdhāv ugraśāsanau ||
sainikāṃś ca samāhūya sutīkṣṇāṃ vācam ūcatuḥ ||
rājarṣayo mahāyajñair havyakavyair dvijātayaḥ ||
tejo balaṃ ca devānāṃ vardhayanti śriyaṃ tathā ||
teṣām evaṃ pravṛddhānāṃ sarveṣām asuradviṣām ||
saṃbhūya sarvair asmābhiḥ kāryaḥ sarvātmanā vadhaḥ ||
"Then, having begun to conquer the whole earth, terrible in their dominion, having summoned their warriors, they uttered a most harsh word: 'The royal seers with great sacrifices, and the twice-born with libations to gods and ancestors, increase the vigor, strength, and glory of the gods; all these haters of the asuras, grown so mighty, all of us together must, with our whole soul, put to death!'"

Here evil aims at the very root of the world order — at sacrifice itself. It is telling that the asuras plot to destroy the priests and ascetics: knowing that the yajña nourishes the gods and upholds the cosmic order, they strike at it. Here it becomes clear that enmity toward God falls first upon the worship of God. Thus the scripture shows the deepest malice of the asuras; and persecution of the sacrifice is persecution of the very order of creation.
