ततस् तीक्ष्णार्चिर् अभ्यागाज् ज्वलितो हव्यवाहनः ॥
यत्र शार्ङ्गा बभूवुस् ते मन्दपालस्य पुत्रकाः ॥
ते शार्ङ्गा ज्वलनं दृष्ट्वा ज्वलितं स्वेन तेजसा ॥
जरितारिस् ततो वाचं श्रावयाम् आस पावकम् ॥

tatas tīkṣṇārcir abhyāgāj jvalito havyavāhanaḥ ||
yatra śārṅgā babhūvus te mandapālasya putrakāḥ ||
te śārṅgā jvalanaṃ dṛṣṭvā jvalitaṃ svena tejasā ||
jaritāris tato vācaṃ śrāvayām āsa pāvakam ||

Translation
"Then the sharp-flamed, blazing bearer of oblations approached, where those Sharngas were, the small sons of Mandapala; those Sharngas, seeing the fire blazing with its own splendor — Jaritari then made his speech heard by Pavaka."

Here, facing death, the children turn to God. It is telling that, seeing the fire, Jaritari does not cry out in fear but addresses a hymn of praise to Agni: in extremity, the righteous turn to God. In this lies the truth that prayer is the last and surest refuge. So the scripture shows the fledglings' trust; and their praise will incline Agni to mercy, as he had promised their father.
