ततः प्रसादयाम् आसुर् उमां रुद्रं च ते सुराः ॥
अभवच् च पुनर् बाहुर् यथाप्रकृति वज्रिणः ॥
तेषां प्रसन्नो भगवान् सपत्नीको वृषध्वजः ॥
देवानां त्रिदशश्रेष्ठो दक्षयज्ञविनाशनः ॥
स वै रुद्रः स च शिवः सो ऽग्निः शर्वः स सर्ववित् ॥
स चेन्द्रश् चैव वायुश् च सो ऽश्विनौ स च विद्युतः ॥
tataḥ prasādayām āsur umāṃ rudraṃ ca te surāḥ ||
abhavac ca punar bāhur yathāprakṛti vajriṇaḥ ||
teṣāṃ prasanno bhagavān sapatnīko vṛṣadhvajaḥ ||
devānāṃ tridaśaśreṣṭho dakṣayajñavināśanaḥ ||
sa vai rudraḥ sa ca śivaḥ so 'gniḥ śarvaḥ sa sarvavit ||
sa cendraś caiva vāyuś ca so 'śvinau sa ca vidyutaḥ ||
"Then those gods appeased Uma and Rudra; and the arm of the wielder of the vajra [Indra] became as before. Pleased by them, Bhagavan, together with his consort, the bull-bannered one, highest of the thirty gods, destroyer of Daksha's sacrifice. He indeed is Rudra, and he is Shiva, he is Agni, Sharva, he is all-knowing; he is Indra as well, and Vayu, he is the Ashvins, and he is the lightnings."

The hymn proclaims an identity: the Supreme is Rudra, and Agni, and Indra, and Vayu — all the gods are his faces. It is significant that polytheism here dissolves into monotheism: behind the multitude of names stands one God. The verse teaches that the various deities are manifestations of a single supreme Reality; and one who grasps this unity within multiplicity does not scatter worship but raises it to the one Source of all the gods.
